L'If commun ou If à baies est une espèce de conifères non résineux, de la famille des Taxacées. Très longévif et poussant lentement, c’est un arbre qui se prête bien à la taille. Il fait partie des plantes toxiques. Devenu rares, les ifs sont protégés au titre d'habitat prioritaire en Europe. Un peuplement d'ifs est une ivaie. Les ivaies sont parfois ripicoles, et certaines étaient ou sont encore des bois sacrés.
