The flat needlefish (Ablennes hians), or barred longtomKinch, J., 1999. The generic name Ablennes – formerly misspelled Athlennes – means ‘without ’, from the ancient Greek privative a- prefix and blennos (‘mucus’). Its specific name is Latin for "gaping".
